Stater (Silver, 7.74 g 6), c. 390-340. Head of Athena, wearing crested Attic helmet, three-quarters
facing to right. Rev. Herakles standing facing, head to right, grappling with the Nemean lion;
to left, club and bow.
HN III 1375. Van Keuren 20. Work 21.
A lovely example with a beautiful head
of Athena. Nearly extremely fine.

Ex Leu 86, 5 May 2003, 228.
The facing head of Athena on this coin has a remarkably sympathetic and kindly expression as she
glances to her left. Even though she wears armor she is not preparing to fight an attacking giant;
she is, rather, looking with favor as patroness of the city of Herakleia.
